Disaster Legal Support Program

Disaster Legal Support Program (DLSP) provides free legal help to South Australians impacted, or at risk of natural disasters.

DLSP aims to support South Australian individuals, small business and primary producers at all stages of the Disaster Management Cycle. To help communities build resilience and prepare for disasters, they provide free Community Legal Education and advice on legal issues like insurance, wills, estate planning, Advance Care Directives and more.

In the event of a disaster, their solicitors and support staff are deployed as “boots on the ground,” to assist with Response and Recovery, providing free legal assistance and warm referrals to other allied and essential support services via local outreach, remote appointments and Recovery Centres. In the recovery stage, they can continue to offer legal advice, and tailored community legal education, particularly around insurance claims and disputes.

Legal services are provided by appointment only.

Planning for the Unplanned

Are you financially ready for a natural disaster?

Everyone’s situation is unique.

Some things are outside of your control, and there are some things you can do NOW to get ready.

But can you ever be truly financially ready for a natural disaster? The Salvation Army Moneycare team set out to answer this question with the Planning for the Unplanned program.

Getting financially ready for a natural disaster is not something you have to do alone. Moneycare has trained financial coaches who would love to support you on the journey of financial readiness. They will work with you on your goals for financial readiness, look at your options, and help connect you with a community of other support if you choose. The Moneycare team offers free workshops, either in person or online, and one-on-one support to guide you through this journey.

Free workshops are currently being offered for the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island, run by a qualified financial counsellor experienced in bushfire recovery.

For more information, contact fcsupport@salvationarmy.org.au or call 1800 722 363. You can also download the resource book from the Salvation Army website.

Power Outages & Hazards

SA Power Networks provides two key services to help customers manage electrical issues and stay informed about outages:

- Hazard Reporting Service: This service enables customers to report electrical hazards, such as fallen powerlines, damaged equipment, or other dangerous situations. Reports are submitted through an online form, allowing SA Power Networks to address potential risks quickly and maintain public safety.

- Power Outage Map and Alerts: SA Power Networks offers an interactive outage map that provides real-time updates on current outages, affected areas, and estimated restoration times. Customers can also sign up for free power outage alerts, which provide timely information via SMS or email about outages in their area. These alerts notify users when a power outage starts, the expected restoration time, and when the power has been restored. This service helps customers stay informed and plan accordingly during outages.

Both services aim to enhance safety and improve communication during electrical incidents.
