AnglicareSA Emergency Assistance

AnglicareSA provides food, support and advocacy for individuals and families in need. AnglicareSA Emergency Assistance sites are located in Adelaide City, Elizabeth, Christies Beach, Woodville, Wallaroo & Whyalla.

They provide relief through the provision of food, pharmacy vouchers (for prescribed medication), blankets and other linen. Emergency Assistance is available Monday to Friday (from 9am–12pm). Please note each service and its phone line will close when capacity has been reached for the day.

Most Emergency Assistance locations require you to call to make a booking. Check the specific location if you are required to book an appointment.

Baptist Care SA Food & Relief

Baptist Care SA's homelessness services, located in Millers Court, Adelaide (just off Wright Street), provide a safe place for individuals to access food, shelter, support, advocacy, and referrals.

Community Food Hub

The Baptist Care SA Community Food Hub, situated at 216 Wright Street, offers low-priced groceries to anyone with a concession card or Immi card, including pensioners, students, and people experiencing homelessness.

- Location: 216 Wright Street, Adelaide.

- Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm.

WestCare Centre

The WestCare Centre operates Monday to Friday from 9 am to 10:30 am and 11:30 am to 1 pm (closed on public holidays).

- Free Breakfast: 9 am to 10:30 am.

- Lunch: 12 noon, $2.50 for a three-course meal (a free option of pie/soup is also available).

- Free Coffee/Tea: 9 am to 3 pm.

On Sundays, the centre is open from 10 am to 1 pm, offering free tea/coffee from 10 am and free lunch from 12 noon to 1 pm.

Additionally, the centre provides access to warm showers, free laundry services, legal services, health care, and other support services to enhance health and wellbeing.

Emergency Relief

Baptist Care SA's pantry is stocked with non-perishable food and household items, thanks to generous donors and Emergency Financial Assistance government grants. Over 2,000 emergency relief parcels are distributed annually.

- Emergency Relief (ER) Appointments: Available at 11-19 Millers Court, Adelaide, for singles, couples, and families. Appointments are available Monday to Thursday (10 appointments per day) from 9 am to 12:30 pm.

Emergency Relief

PLEASE NOTE: Some of these services may, at times, move to phone based appointments.

There are organisations across South Australia that help people struggling with the cost of living pressures by providing the basic essentials. Support such as food, food vouchers, e-vouchers, blankets, clothes, assistance with bills, utilities and furniture. Help may also include medications, access to free glasses, and referrals for assistance with dental care.

Many centres provide budget counselling and mentoring, financial counselling, personal counselling and links to other community programs.

Community meals are free and low cost meals provided across Adelaide and South Australia. Some services provide take home packs. Please check with each service to see if there is a cost as well as when and where the meals are provided.

Fred's Van Meal Service

The St Vincent de Paul Society operates 10 services across South Australia to ensure no one goes hungry.

The Vinnies Fred's Van meal service provides all kinds of nourishment - not just food!

The service operates at eight sites across Adelaide, as well as one site each in Port Lincoln and Port Pirie.

The Adelaide sites are: Aldinga, Adelaide CBD, Christie Downs, Kilburn, Elizabeth, Gawler, Semaphore and Salisbury.

Fred's Van help break through the barriers of loneliness and isolation that many people experiencing poverty and/or homelessness feel. We can provide a meal, blankets, toiletries, snacks, hot beverages and most importantly, companionship. As a result, Vinnies has helped foster genuine communities of friends from all walks of life.

Anyone is welcome at any of the 10 Fred’s Van sites. We especially encourage people in our community who are sleeping rough or who are in insecure accommodation to access the service. People are under no obligation to pay for the meals or goods provided, but people are encouraged to stay and chat as a Fred’s Van community.

Cos We Care

Cos We Care is dedicated to providing essential support to the homeless and vulnerable populations in Adelaide and the Northern suburbs. Their services include distributing nutritious meals and essential items such as toiletries and clothing, all free of charge.

At the heart of Cos We Care's mission is compassion, as they aim to assist individuals in need regardless of their background or circumstances. They offer both hot and cold meals, along with fresh fruits and vegetables, bakery items, dairy products, pantry staples, cereals, toiletries, tea, coffee, clothing, and footwear.

Through their compassionate approach and commitment to providing vital resources, Cos We Care strives to make a positive difference in the lives of those facing homelessness and vulnerability in the community.

Cos We Care distributes free food and essential items to people experiencing homelessness.

They provide good meals and much-needed items, such as toiletries and clothing, to the homeless and vulnerable in Adelaide and the Northern suburbs.

They provide both hot and cold meals as well as fresh fruit & veg, bakery, dairy, pantry, cereals, toiletries, tea & coffee, plus clothing & footwear.

This is all supplied FREE of charge.

You can find them at Fremont Park, Yorktown Road, Elizabeth on Saturdays, 7:30am – 8:30am.

ADRA Community Pantry

ADRA, supported by the generosity of local businesses and Foodbank, offers crucial assistance to low-income individuals and families by providing access to free or low-cost produce and pantry items. Their community pantry, staffed by friendly volunteers, distributes fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, and other essential groceries. Concession card holders can benefit from low-cost groceries, ensuring everyone has access to nutritious food. This valuable service is accessible from multiple Seventh-day Adventist and ADRA op shops across the state. Through this initiative, ADRA helps alleviate food insecurity and supports community well-being.

You can find emergency food relief on the Foodbank website, here. Users can enter their postcode to find the closest food bank to their location. You can filter by food to prepare or ready-made meals on site, or both.
